"Dare to Dream"

Undoubtedly the most famous and influential speech of the 20th Century was Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream.”  Dreams inspire us to press on when society would hold us back.  A dream will carry us when all hope seems gone.  Therefore, don’t give up on your dream.

If life throws you a curve ball, dare to dream.  If circumstances press in with excruciating cruelty, dare to dream.  If it takes longer than you thought, still dare to dream.  The dream will die only if you allow it to die.  Nurture the seeds of greatness within you and pull the dream-killing weeds out of the soil of your heart.  You are destined to rule over the circumstances that would squelch your dream.  Don’t give up.  Don’t let it die.  Dare to dream.

"In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.  Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams."
The Prophet Joel

 "Take the Shot"

In 1952, my father was the only high school senior in the state of Missouri to be voted unanimously to the All State basketball team.  He received a full-ride scholarship to play at Missouri University.  Later he coached and ultimately became a school superintendent.  As a teenager, I enjoyed watching him play on faculty basketball teams, which were usually put together to raise money for the school.  Although we didn’t have the 3-point line then, he would have been an excellent 3-point shooter.  His form was awesome and he could certainly make the net swoosh.

Today, take the initiative and do something that you have always wanted to do but never had the nerve.  In life, just as in the game of basketball, the one who wins is the one who will take the shot.  Be courageous and go for a three pointer!

"Follow Your Heart"

My wife and I have the privilege of being the parents of three elite athletes.  One is a pitcher at the junior college level, one will be playing NCAA division one volleyball on a full ride scholarship after high school graduation, and the youngest has been in the Olympic Development soccer program for the last two years.  As parents, one of the things that we have attempted to do is help our children find what they are good at and direct them toward excelling in that endeavor.  They have explored other things such as piano, guitar, modeling, football, and softball but ultimately, their hearts led them to their respective sports.

Recently, I read an interview that I did while in college and appearing in a stage production of “The Fantasticks.”  I was co-starring with a local celebrity in this musical and yet, I cringe when I read one of my quotes.  I told the reporter that I was majoring in television production so that if I couldn’t make it as a performer then “I would have something to fall back on.”

It doesn’t sound like someone who was “following his heart,” does it?  Instead, I was “hoping” to do something creative but making allowances for giving myself an out if things just didn’t work out.  Oh sure, it was a practical thing to do but it sent a message to my subconscious mind that I wasn’t really committed to “following my heart.”

I’m in my forties now and I realize that it is time to “follow my heart.”  No more procrastination.  That is why you are reading this TRINSPIRATION™ right now.  My desire is to encourage you to take action and see your dreams realized.  That’s why we are helping our children “follow their hearts,” too.  It’s never too late.  Get started on the process today and “Follow Your Heart.”
